The Ichthyology Lodge is a lodge at the IslandWood – A School in the Woods on Bainbridge Island. Each lodge at the school draws its name, and its motif, from a living part of our environment.

The Ichthyology Lodge (Ichthyology being the study of fishes), is all things fish. Within the lodge is a large (96" x 96") whiteboard which serves as a teaching aid for illustrating concepts about fish. In order to preserve the rustic elements of the school I was asked to create a decorative cabinet to store the board when not in use.

The cabinet door is faced with a large, round, cedar panel which is carved with the major figures in the world of fishes. These include all the different species of salmon, plankton or kelp, phytoplankton or algae, and even the water itself. This cedar panel is mounted on large Maple cabinet doors which house the whiteboard.
